Is higher flow always better for kidney-loop oil filtration?
Is higher flow always better for kidney-loop oil filtration?
Customers often ask for 80–150 LPM, assuming that higher circulation will clean the oil faster.

But flow rate alone does not determine cleanliness.

Surface filtration – Mechkleen ACTIVE
Handles higher flow rates using pleated media. Ideal for high-flow filtration and system protection.

Depth filtration – Mechkleen POLISH A & POLISH B

Operates at a lower flow rate, allowing oil to travel through a three-dimensional depth medium where fine contaminants are progressively captured throughout the filter.

For supercleaning applications, our practical starting guideline is:
Hourly flow ≈ 20% of reservoir capacity
Example:
6, 000 L reservoir → 1, 200 L/hr → 20 LPM

So while a surface filter may process more litres per minute, a correctly sized depth-filtration system can be more suitable when the objective is fine contamination removal and NAS 7 or better cleanliness.

The right question isn't only “How many LPM?”

It's “What cleanliness level do we need to achieve?”
